A man was fighting for his life after falling about 30 feet down an air duct at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium on Monday, authorities said.

The fire department was called around 12:15 a.m. after a 911 call was received. A spokesperson for the Montreal service said it was a “quick rescue” and the man was sent to hospital.

Urgences-santé told Novo Info that the man, in his 30s, was breathing and conscious when paramedics arrived, and that he was suffering from “traumatic injuries”.

Olympic Park officials did not respond to a request for comment from CTV News Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Quebec’s workplace safety board, the Commission on Standards, Equality, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST), has opened an investigation into the incident.

The Olympic Stadium suffered severe water and smoke damage after a fire on March 21, which is now the subject of an investigation by the Montreal Police Department’s arson squad. Over 275 crews are currently cleaning up damaged parts of the building and conducting air quality tests.
