Political parties have prepared for the Lok Sabha elections. The publication is in progress. Some are trying to get votes in the name of caste and some in the name of religion. At the same time, 35 Muslim candidates are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in Prime Minister Modi’s home state of Gujarat. However, the interesting thing is that this time the Congress broke its tradition and did not give a ticket to even a single person from this community.

That is why no Muslim candidate was presented

Congress debated this whole thing. He says that the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat, from which he used to field a Muslim candidate every time, has been given to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) this time due to the seat-sharing agreement between the opposition alliance. Among the national parties, only the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has fielded a Muslim candidate from Gandhinagar in the May 7 elections in the state. BSP also fielded a Muslim candidate from Panchamel in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Much less than 2019

According to the data of the Election Commission, this time 35 Muslim candidates are in the fray in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 25 out of 26 seats in Gujarat, while in 2019, 43 candidates from this community were in the fray. Most of the candidates from the community run in the elections as independents or were nominated by lesser known parties.

Gujarat Congress Minority Wing President Wazir Khan Pathan said, “The party used to field at least one candidate from the Muslim community in the Lok Sabha elections in the state. But this time it was not possible because that seat went to your account.

Less chance of winning…

He alleged that the Congress had proposed to field a candidate from a Gujarat seat, but the community members refused as the chances of victory were slim. Patten said there was no room for a Muslim candidate to contest from any other seat. Two seats with a Muslim population in West Ahmedabad and Kutch are reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.

Let us tell you, apart from Bharuch, the Congress has in the past fielded Muslim candidates from Navsari and Ahmedabad (when it was not divided into Ahmedabad East and West seats).
