Chhattisgarh: Security forces killed 29 Maoists. Tuesday in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh. According to the police, the operation is still going on. It is possible that the number of deaths will rise further. Three security personnel, including two jawans of the Border Security Force and the State Police District Guard (DRG), were injured in the operation.

According to government officials, if the death toll of Maoists crosses 30, this will be the biggest operation by the security forces in the last ten years. Earlier, the Greyhound commandos had killed 30 Maoists in an operation in 2016. Besides, 25 people, including top Maoist leader Milind Teltumbe, were killed by the security forces in the 2021 operation.

Chhattisgarh Police said, “On the morning of April 16, a joint team of DRG and BSF launched a search operation in Chhotabetiya police station area of ​​Kanker district. Maoists were spotted near Binagunda-Koragutta forest around 2 pm. A gun battle immediately ensued.” A large number of weapons have also been recovered, the police said, “After the encounter, a search was conducted. The bodies of 29 Maoists were found from the spot. A large number of AK-47 rifles, INSS, SLR/Carbine, 303 rifles and ammunition were also recovered.”

The police claimed that top Maoist leader Shankar Rao, whose head was worth Rs 25 lakh, and Maoist leader Lalitha were killed in the operation. According to Bastar IG P​​​​​​Sundarraj, “This operation is one of the biggest anti-Maoist operations in the area.” He also added, “We launched the operation as soon as we got the news about the arrival of senior Maoist leaders Shankar, Lalita and Raju in the area. All those killed were members of the North Bastar Division.”

So far this year, 79 Maoists have been killed in separate gun battles with security forces. Incidentally, Lok Sabha polls in Kanker on April 26, Bastar on April 19. Three days before the first phase of the elections, the joint forces launched such a big operation against the Maoists. Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the joint forces after the incident. He called Maoism ‘the greatest enemy of development’.

The Home Minister wrote on X Post, “Today a large number of Maoists have been killed in Chhattisgarh in an operation by security forces. Congratulations to all the security personnel who bravely made the operation successful. I wish the injured members a speedy recovery. Naxalism is the greatest enemy of development, peace and bright future of the youth”. He added, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are determined to free the country from the grip of Naxalism. Naxalites today are confined to a small area due to the aggressive policies of the government and the efforts of the security forces.
