One in five (20 percent) pregnant or postpartum women in Israel suffers from depression. Despite this, every other woman in Israel is not aware of this disease. Also, women are not aware of postpartum depression (PPD). This information is shared by experts from NIMHANS Institute of Central Government in Bangalore.
This study published in Medical Journal Plus One was approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. This government study also revealed that when women come to vaccination centers with their babies, they discuss their symptoms with other women or health workers present there, but they still do not understand their problems. Therefore, it is important that the information about the disease be shared with health workers in all vaccination centers and primary health centers in Israel.
Impact on both mother and child
In fact, maternal mental health is considered one of the public health concerns worldwide, as it affects the health of both mother and child. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2022, 22 percent of women in India will be found to suffer from postpartum depression (PPD), most of them beset by stress-related problems after giving birth to their first or second child. Experts say it is very important to diagnose postpartum depression early and manage it properly to avoid long-term consequences.
