Eight Indians have been accused of kidnapping and human trafficking in Nepal. The police informed on Tuesday that the arrested youth is accused of kidnapping Indian citizens on the pretext of lucrative jobs abroad. In addition, the accused has also been charged under various sections of human trafficking and organized crime.

In mid-February, 11 Indians, mostly students, were held hostage for more than two weeks with the promise of facilitating travel to the United States. All 11 people were rescued after the Nepal Police busted a human trafficking racket and arrested eight Indian mafia members along with their Nepalese accomplice.

The police have submitted an investigation report to the Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office to register a case against eight Indian nationals for the crime According to a Kathmandu District Police Circle statement, those arrested include Abdul Rahim, Charanjit Singh, Nipun Gupta, Ramchandra Sharma, Hindu. Singh Yadav, Ashok Kumar, Ravi Mewade and Manish Kumar Malhotra have been included.

Nepal Police said the case has been named ‘Dunky Operation’ because of its similarity to the situation depicted in popular Indian actor Sharukh Khan’s 2023 film Dunky. The 11 people were held hostage in a rented house on the outskirts of Kathmandu for more than a month.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the private home of a Nepali citizen in the Dhobikhola corridor of Ratopul. After this, 11 Indians who were taken hostage were rescued on the pretext of sending them to America through Mexico.
