Worker charred to death in Delhi fire

New Delhi: A 45-year-old worker was charred to death after a fire broke out in a paper chute in east Delhi’s Shakarpur area, an official said on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Satnander Pawan, a native of Bihar’s Nalanda district.

Sharing the details, the police said at around 01:00 a.m. information was received regarding a fire in a building in Block School, Shakrapur following which a police team was sent to the spot.

“The building is on a 100 square meter lot with a ground floor and two rooms on the first floor. The property belongs to Muna Kumar, who runs a paper mill called Bhumi Trading Company,” said a senior police official.

The official further said that Pawan worked as a window shop worker and used to sleep there only.

“Eight fire tenders took about 6/7 hours to control the fire. BSES and Chief Electrical Inspector are called to inspect the site, apart from the crime and forensic teams inspecting the site,” the source said. “The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and a case has been registered against Mona,” added the source.
