In an unforgettable, out-of-this-world tribute, the ashes of Elizabeth Garcia and her cat Chloe were scattered in outer space after their deaths.

Elizabeth Garcia, who died aged 70, and her beloved cat had their ashes scattered in space in an out-of-this-world outlet. The British citizen who lived in Barnsley died of a heart condition in 2022 at the age of 70 but she organized this amazing last trip before her death.

She was given two years to live but died less than two months after her birthday. She, like her husband, John, was a keen explorer and would often travel across the world to visit new countries and their people. She did, however, have a strong desire to go to outer space.

In order to pay a final, unforgettable tribute to her and her cat, Chloe’s life, she arranged for her ashes to be scattered in the stratosphere.

“They enjoyed traveling and socializing. She was a very generous person helping family and friends without question. It was her wish that her ashes be sent into space,” said her sister Jean, reflecting on the lives of Elizabeth and her husband.

Elizabeth used the services of Aura Flights, a space memorial provider from Sheffield. The company charges £2950 (Rs 310,404) for its ‘space memorial’ and the service includes a personalized video and a memorial page on the website.

“It’s very special to do the launch on behalf of someone you’ve talked to so much – knowing how much she wanted to be spread out in space and being able to achieve that for her was really rewarding and encouraging,” client care and a contact for Aura Flights was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Their dust traveled over 31 km above Earth in a dispersal vessel in October 2023 with the help of a specialist stratospheric balloon. Their black and white portrait photo was attached to the ship.

The ship then scattered their ashes across the cosmos and also filmed the entire event.

“It was emotional, but especially knowing that this is exactly what Elizabeth wanted. She would have been delighted with the result, as we all were,” Jean was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

A spokesperson for Aura Flights said that demand for the service has increased over the years.
