She is the familiar voice that fills the Canadian Life Center every Jets game.

Stacey Nattrass has been the anthem singer for the Winnipeg Jets ever since the team returned in 2011. Nattrass, who previously sang anthems for the Manitoba Moose, says she was thrilled when the NHL came calling.

“I hit the roof, literally. He jumped up and down in my basement, almost hitting my head,” laughed Nattrass. “I’m still pinching myself.”

Nattrass’s passion for music is deeply rooted. She comes from a musical family and not only her gig at night, but also her day job.

Nattrass has been a music teacher at Garden City Collegiate for over two decades.

“I love passing on my love of music and my knowledge of music to young people, and it’s a pleasure to hear them sing every day,” he said.

Her lighting as the Jets’ anthem singer also comes as a surprise to many of her students, she said.

“Before I got married, Nattrass was the name I would go by at school, but at school I go by Ms Brown,” said Nattrass. “And so most of the students don’t put it together. To be honest, I’ve been really surprised at kids coming in, even kids I’ve had for over a year, saying ‘I saw you on TV last night – you do that ?!’”

Nattrass says she loves hearing the crowd cheer and sing along with her, which she says is electrifying during the whitewash season.

“There is another level in the play-offs as well. Like, people sing along,” he said. “At a regular season Jets game you can hear people chanting for O’Canada. But in the playoffs, they are loud. it’s like a choir. A big choir.”
