Both Mumbai and Bengaluru boast of a thriving startup culture.

Mumbai and Bengaluru are among the most developed cities in India. Both have thriving startup cultures. While Mumbai is the financial capital of the country, Bengaluru is touted as the Silicon Valley of India.

Film producer and investor Natasha Malpani Oswal recently shared her thoughts on the two cities. Speaking about Bengaluru, Natasha said, “The city is an up-and-coming power center as paper wealth turns into real money – but it’s still early days as the city moves from town to thriving metropolis .”

He added, “Bombay, on the other hand, with its multi-generational wealth, feels like it’s past its prime, but it’s not going to go down without a fight, and it’s clawing its way back to their glory days.” Natasha asked her followers to weigh in on the city they would bet on. His post got over a lakh of views and scores of responses.

User X described Mumbai as “Bombay is like that 300 year old castle that stands strong and will continue to stand strong, but has lost its shine. Bangalore is a new expressway that will have potholes in 3 rainy seasons, and they will continue to rebuild for 5-10 years. “

Another person placed their bets on Mumbai and wrote, “Silicon Valley’s boom did nothing to diminish the allure of New York. It’s a clichéd comparison but Mumbai will remain the city of dreams.’

Coming to Bengaluru’s defence, user X wrote, “Like it or not, Bangalore will grow even bigger for at least a decade. Mumbai has barely invested in the future (like EVs) and a lot of talent in finance, design and even the liberal arts have moved from Mumbai to Bangalore with no plans to go back. “

Giving a more balanced opinion, another person wrote, “Someone told me that Bangalore is where the early stage grinding happens. But Mumbai will be where the big boys/girls (growth) will stay. With that in mind, Bangalore is the future, Mumbai is the present.

User X argued that people need to move beyond cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru and wrote, “Neither. Young investors like you need to convince founders that you can’t keep building in cities that are far past annoying and uncountable. You also need to open your mind and realize that there is life and aspirations, hope and solid founders beyond NCR, MMR and BGL.”

Despite their thriving businesses, Mumbai and Bengaluru grapple with poor public infrastructure such as sub-par roads and unreliable public transport. The cities also have high living costs, a housing crisis, and increasing pollution.
