BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has accused the TMC government of West Bengal of looting electricity consumers. According to him, the state government has changed the existing schedule by not increasing the tariff rate, due to which consumers will have to pay higher bills during the summer season.

Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly termed this decision of West Bengal State Electricity Corporation (WBSEDCL) as a smart and smart move to charge more from consumers. According to him, the restructuring of the tariff tables led to a 20 percent increase in the bill for 300 consumption units.

Consumers receive different board structures

BJP leader Adhikari, in a post on Twitter, alleged that discrepancies have appeared in the revised tariff schedules for the quarterly electricity bills for the May-July period, with consumers getting different schedule structures. To illustrate the potential impact, the official gave two examples based on the revised rate schedules.

The previous bill for 300 units was Rs 1948, now Rs 2351 will have to be paid.

He wrote in X, where the power consumption is 300 units. Consumers will have to pay Rs 1,948.60 as per the old schedule, but when the schedule is rearranged, consumers will have to pay Rs 2,351.18. Similarly, when the consumption is 1000 units, consumers would have to pay Rs 7,456.04 under the old slab, but now they will have to pay a bill of Rs 8,805.18. When contacted, neither the state’s electricity secretary, Hatnu Basu, nor the WBSEDCL spokesperson responded to the allegation.
