Cyclone Ramal in the Bay of Bengal. There is a possibility of a collision between Sagar Island in Bengal and Khupada in Bangladesh on Sunday night. The Meteorological Department said on Saturday that the cyclone could hit the coast at a speed of 110-120 km/h. During this period there is a possibility of 1.5 meter high waves in the sea, due to which low-lying areas of the coast of West Bengal and Bangladesh may be submerged. The Meteorological Department asked fishermen not to enter the northern part of Bay of Bengal till the morning of May 27. However, due to the influence of Ramal, there is a possibility of rain from West Bengal, Odisha, Mizoram to Bihar.
Kolkata airport will remain closed for 21 hours
Due to Cyclone Ramal, flight operations from Kolkata Airport will be suspended for 21 hours from 12 noon on Sunday to 9 am on Monday. The Indian Coast Guard has deployed nine disaster relief teams at sea. Apart from this, 12 teams of NDRF have also been deployed in Bengal.
Strong winds are expected in the coastal districts of West Bengal and North Odisha
Heavy rain is expected today and tomorrow in the coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak and Kanderpara in north Odisha, the weather department said. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Mayurbhajanj on May 27. Also on May 26, there is a possibility of light rain at most places in Mizoram, Tripura and South Manipur with very heavy rain at some places. Light rain is expected over Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura on May 27 and 28. Rain is possible at some places in Bihar. Due to Cyclone Ramal, it has been decided to close all cargo and container handling operations for 12 hours at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port in Bengal starting at 18:00 on Sunday. The meteorological department has warned of wind speed of 100 to 110 kmph in South 24 Parganas and wind speed of 90 to 100 kmph to 110 kmph in North 24 Parganas on May 26-27. The department has issued an orange alert for the districts of Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia and East Medinipur.
