Congress Knesset member Mathew Kojlanaden received a shock from the vigilance court. rejected his request for a court-supervised probe into alleged financial dealings between a private mining company and the defunct IT firm of Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan T. Veena’s daughter.

This petition was granted

Kojlanadan turned to the special vigilance court. He said the vigilance department had refused to investigate the financial transactions between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Veena’s company Exlogic.

Demand for a court-supervised investigation

Last month, when the court was supposed to give its verdict, Kojlanadan made a new demand that the investigation be conducted under the supervision of the court. This angered the court, which asked him if he was sure what his position was in the case. Kojlanaden then said he would present more evidence. The court decided to consider his new demand.

The court rejected the petition

The court dismissed the petition after a detailed discussion of the documents submitted by the Congress MLA. Meanwhile, Kojlanaden said, ‘Since I am a lawyer by profession, it is too early to say whether I will appeal. I have not yet received the copy of the judgment and will reply after reading it. Like I said before, I’m not going to run away.

The issue came to light after a total payment of Rs 1.72 crore.

Controversy erupted last year in Kerala over some financial deals between a private mineral company and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter T Veena and her IT company. A media report said the company had deals with senior leaders of the ruling CPI(M) as well as the Congress-led UDF. The issue came to light when a Malayalam daily recently reported that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd. (CMRL) paid a total of Rs 1.72 crore to the CM’s daughter during the three-year period between 2017 and 2020. BJP attacked Chief Minister Vijayan on the matter and asked him to break his silence on the allegations against his daughter.
