- Usman focuses on playing according to the needs of the team.
Usman Khan remains steadfast in his choice to play for Pakistan, even in the face of Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) results.
The ECB has imposed a five-year ban on him from participating in UAE leagues after his contract with them expires.
Initially offered a retainer with the opportunity to play for the United Arab Emirates cricket team, Usman chose to wear the green shirt of Pakistan instead and was selected for Pakistan’s T20I squad against New Zealand.
Although his initial performances against the Black Caps did not live up to expectations, Usman remains calm and has no regrets about his decision.
“I have come into the Pakistan team on the back of performances, so I am not thinking about the past,” Usman told the media on Sunday in Lahore.
“I am grateful that I am getting a chance to play for Pakistan. I do not regret my decision,” he further added.
He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to play for Pakistan and emphasized his dedication to adapting to the needs of the team without feeling any pressure.
“There is no pressure on me as I play according to the plans given to me. I stay true to my game and perform according to the team’s requirements. I have no problem batting at all,” Usman said.
Following the series against New Zealand, Pakistan captain Babar Azam discussed Usman Khan’s progress, acknowledging the obstacles the young player is facing. Babar observed that Usman made every effort to perform well and the kind of intent he showed is a positive indicator.
“See, you have to give an edge. The thing about the Pakistan team is that there is pressure. I know Usman left so many things, so that would all be in the back of his mind. But he has made every effort. Look, as a player, whenever you make a debut, you try to stabilize your innings after 2 innings, but the kind of intent he showed, that was also required of him. Performance is not under anyone’s control. On the day it is your day, you will perform,” Babar said.
Pakistan beat New Zealand on Saturday to level the five-match Twenty20 International series in Lahore. The series ended in a 2–2 draw, with Pakistan winning the second and fifth T20Is and New Zealand winning the third and fourth matches. The first match in Rawalpindi was canceled due to rain, without any result.
