Seven and a half lakh passengers reached their destination within 17 days

The under-river section of the Kolkata Metro’s Green Line has caused a stir. It carried 1.5 lakh passengers in the last 17 days of the last financial year. Commercial service on the Howrah Maidan to Esplanade section of the Green Line under the Hooghly River from March 15 for metro users and suburban passengers of the Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway. This section attracts thousands of passengers from day one. Currently there are four metro stations in this section including Howrah Maidan, Howrah, Mahakaran and Esplanade. The services in this section are available from Monday to Saturday. The Esplanade metro station serves as an interchange station between the green line and the blue line.
The highest passenger count on this stretch was recorded at Howrah station at 3.25 lakh, followed by Howrah Maidan station (2.55 lakh).
