News of a major accident comes out of Odisha. Two people died and seven others went missing after a boat carrying 50 people capsized in Mahanadi river here in Jaharsguda district on Friday.

There were 50 people in the boat

According to the police, the incident took place when the boat was traveling from Pathrasani Kuda to Banjipalli in Bargarh district with about 50 passengers. When the boat was about to reach Sarada Ghat in Jahrasguda district, it suddenly overturned. Then a cry was heard on the spot. Police said 35 people were rescued and brought to the river bank by local fishermen.

Seven people are still missing

Seven more passengers were then rescued by police and fire brigades. The officer said that seven other passengers are still missing and a search operation has been launched. Five divers were sent to the rescue operation.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over this accident. He announced an amount of 4 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
