Ankara, April 17: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet with the leader of Hamas. Next Friday, the Turkish president will meet with the leader of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh. Meanwhile, Turkey confirmed Erdogan’s meeting with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The Turkish president said, ‘I will welcome the Palestinian leader. We will also discuss some issues.’
An Al Jazeera reporter said that the meeting was planned more than a week after an Israeli airstrike on a car in northern Gaza killed seven members of the family, including three children and four grandchildren. Erdogan has always supported Hamas.
On the other hand, Israel-Hamas has been fighting since October 7. Afterwards, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly criticized Israel. He always demanded a ceasefire. The war in Gaza effectively severed Turkish-Israeli friendly relations. The Turkish president also called Israel a ‘terrorist state’. Erdogan also accused Israel of involvement in genocide.
By the way, Turkey has taken tough measures against Israel with continuous barbaric attacks on Palestinians. Erdogan’s government stopped the export of goods to Israel until the ceasefire in Gaza. On Tuesday (April 10), the Turkish Ministry of Commerce announced the ban on the export of goods in a statement. It was Turkey’s biggest move against Israel in six months. Turkey warned and clarified that the ban will remain in effect until the ceasefire in Gaza is implemented. Ankara warned of tougher measures step by step.
