NEW YORK – When The Washington Post contacted then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign to request a recording of him bragging about grabbing women’s genitalia, the request for comment it landed in the inbox of Hope Hicks, his main spokesperson.
The email from reporter David Fahrenthold arrived on Friday afternoon a few weeks before the general election. He had labeled the message “URGENT” in the subject line. When he saw her, Hicks was “shocked.” The campaign was facing a huge crisis, he recalled on Friday.
