On March 26, BJP MP Dilip Ghosh, while addressing the media in Durgpur, said, “When Didi (CM Mamata Banerjee) goes to Goa, she calls herself Goa’s daughter. When she goes to Tripura, she says she is Tripura’s daughter. She first needs to identify her father…"

In response to this, the AITC wrote to the CEO, strongly objecting to Ghosh’s remarks, citing a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) governing election conduct.

The complaint read, “…Mr. Dilip Ghosh, a BJP candidate contesting from Bardhaman-Durgapur, made derogatory and disparaging remarks against Ms. Mamata Banerjee, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. Mr. Ghosh made objectionable and disrespectful remarks to the press , regarding Smt. Mamata Banerjee, which were aired and widely circulated by various media channels.”

“Such comments not only attempt to undermine the stature of Smt. Mamata Banerjee but also directly attack her personal character and modesty, which comes as a flagrant violation of the MCC… Ghosh’s comments not only cross the lines of propriety but also perpetuate A culture of misogyny and disrespect for women in positions of power…” reads.

The MCC prohibits political parties and candidates from engaging in activities or making statements that attack the personal lives of individuals or are of a malicious and offensive nature. Criticism of those who oppose their policies and work should be limited, and comments on their private lives should be avoided.

They also requested Immediate action against Ghosh for flagrant violation of the MCC and for making such distorted and disrespectful statements against the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
