Shreyas Iyer praised his entire team for stepping up when it mattered most as they marched into the final of IPL 2024 after beating SRH in Qualifier 1 in Ahmedabad.
The Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders marched their way to the finals of the Indian Premier League 2024 with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 of the play-offs held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.
The KKR skipper was in good nick with the bat as he carried the side home with a 24 ball 58 against the SRH bowling attack led by Pat Cummins. He had spoken in the post-match presentation where he revealed his initial reactions after the win.
“Overwhelmed by the performance, the responsibility was important, and we stood up for each other, extremely happy with the performances,” said Shreyas.

There were concerns about whether there would be rust considering that the last match that KKR played was on the 11th of May. But the skipper believes the extended break is crucial given all the traveling they do throughout the season.
“The renovation was important to us. When you travel so much, it’s important to stay in the present,” he added.
He praised the team as a whole for coming together once again and putting together a dominant overall performance. He also praised the bowlers for their ability to take wickets regularly and curb any chance of SRH fighting back.
He said, “Today was the day we had to make the most of it, we did and that’s what we thrive on. I think the way all the bowlers stood up to this occasion, the way they came in and took wickets, was crucial”.

He added, “The attitude and approach of every bowler was to take wickets and they did that. When you have diversity in the bowling, it’s amazing”.
Shreyas suggested that the team is committed to laying the hard yards that have enabled them to be in such a leading position and have only the last step to secure the title.
He said, “They’ve been true to their work ethic, hopefully, we’re still performing. It was Gurbaz’s debut and he gave an effective start. We had to make sure we carried the same run rate forward”.
During the second innings, he was asked about his chemistry with fellow Iyer, Venkatesh, he revealed that the two spoke to each other in different languages, Venkatesh spoke to him in Tamil while Shreyas responded in Hindi.
“I don’t know Tamil, but I understand. Venky speaks in Tamil, and I reply in Hindi. We need to be in our zone in the final and make sure we give our best,” he concluded.
