Trinamool’s (TMC) Saket Gokhel on Monday attacked the Center over the appointment of the new NIA Director General. He asked whether the Center got the approval of the Election Commission before appointing the new NIA Director General? Along with this, he asked whether the center demanded an investigation by the election committee about the appointment of the CEO?

Saket Gokhel’s allegations against BJP

The TMC leader claimed that BJP’s tie-up with central agencies is deepening during the Lok Sabha elections. Posting on social media platform X, the TMC Rajya Sabha MP claimed that BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari met National Inspector General of Police (NIA) Dr Singh on March 26. On the same day Sadanand Date was appointed as the head of the agency.

Gokel claimed that Tiwari met Singh with a package. During this meeting, the BJP leader gave a list of TMC leaders and workers to be targeted. He said the new director general of the NIA served as the head of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad till March 26. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis appointed him as the new director general of the agency.

BJP’s nexus with central agencies is deep: Saket Gokhel

The TMC leader asked, “Did PM Modi get the Election Commission’s approval for this? When the DGP of West Bengal was replaced thrice within 24 hours, the officer selected by the Maharashtra BJP government did not need the Election Commission’s approval.” How is he appointed NIA chief without being appointed?” He further said, “During the Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s nexus with central agencies is deepening. These agencies are acting as a personal mafia for BJP.”

A 10-member TMC delegation will meet the Election Commission in New Delhi on Monday to complain of misuse of central agencies against party leaders and workers.
