Illegal business worth Rs 30 to 40 lakh is done daily from the sand ghats of Barkar river.

These days, illegal sand mining is going on in various ghats of the Barkar river passing through Maiton and Kumardhobi areas of Agirkund block. In the name of building development plans, sand is lifted daily by thousands of tractor carts.
