Thousands are expected in Montreal on May 1 in a march for International Workers’ Day Achi-News

Thousands of people are expected to participate in the traditional International Workers’ Day demonstration in Montreal’s east end on May 1.

The march will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the François-Perot park, near the Saint-Michel metro station in the east end of Montreal. The marchers will continue to the Jean-Talon Hospital.

The organization wishes to take advantage of the opportunity to point out the gains made by the workers, mainly thanks to the recent negotiations in the public sector, “which allowed for significant progress in regards to the protection of rights and the improvement of working and employment conditions”.

But she also wants to talk about the struggles that remain.

For example, workers with precarious status, those with difficult working conditions and temporary foreign workers, May 1st coalition spokeswoman Arianne Beauchampin Pepin said in an interview on Tuesday.

Protection of the social safety net is also on the agenda, as well as other factors close to the hearts of the workers, such as inflation, the housing crisis and health reform, she added.
