With climate change, the threat of termites is increasing rapidly. Most of the world’s cities fall termites, a small but destructive and invasive insect. The higher temperatures also make cold areas more favorable for termites. Because of termites, the world suffers a loss of more than 3,33,715 crore rupees ($4,000 crore) every year.

This information was found in a research study published in the journal Neobiota. Due to the way the world’s climate is changing and the world is warming, these invasive organisms are spreading rapidly even in cities where there was no trace of them before. These cities include hotspots such as Sao Paulo, Lagos, Miami, Jakarta and Darwin, as well as moderately cool cities such as London, Paris, Brussels, New York and Tokyo. These termites, which normally thrive in tropical climates, are easily reaching cities far from their natural habitat due to increased connectivity and climate change. Increasing urbanization will further facilitate the widespread spread of invasive termites in the future. The global movement of goods, including wooden furniture and other goods, shipped to remote areas allows termites to spread into homes and businesses.

That’s why they target wood

The main reason termites target wood is cellulose, which is the primary food of termites. Cellulose is abundant in trees, plants, trees, grass, etc. The structure of the termites’ mouth is such that it is easy for them to eat trees and things like that. A single termite colony nestled inside a small piece of wood can travel stealthily from the West Indies to your apartment, researchers say. Once the termite kings and queens are attracted to the light after the trip, they begin to increase their population. A small insect that slowly makes its way into homes, but once it sets up its camp, it’s not easy to get it out.

A termite colony matures in 3 to 5 years

A termite colony matures in 3 to 5 years and begins to produce swarms (winged adults). North Carolina has at least three native species of subterranean termites that begin to swarm in late winter. Swarms usually attack during the day, especially on hot days after rain. When infestations occur indoors, it means there is contamination somewhere inside the home. Many species of ants also swarm at that time of year as do termites.
