Capping off a shootout weekend, Kyle Larson won NASCAR’s AdventHealth 400 by an incredible 0.001 seconds in Kansas on Sunday.

Unlike the Kentucky Derby, which was won by Mystic Dan on Saturday, even the naked eye could tell the difference between the first-place finisher from Larsson and the eventual second-place finisher Chris Boucher in a photo finish.

The finish was so close that Rush Fenway Keselowski Racing (RFK Racing), Buscher’s team, and the on-air commentators originally believed Buscher had done enough to secure the win.

Team RFK could be seen on the air celebrating happily before the official score was finally closed.

In the end, Hendrick Motorsports’ Larson was declared the winner in the closest finish in NASCAR Cup Series history, according to NASCAR.

“It was wild,” Larson told FS1 following the race. “It was crazy. I mean the race from start to finish was amazing.

“Today you get your money’s worth and I’m just proud to be part of the program.”

With the two drivers crashing into each other and finishing neck and neck as the finish neared, neither rider could be sure they were the winner. However, Learson was originally told that he finished in second place.

“I didn’t know if I won or not, I was excited towards the end,” Larson added as he explained that his scout said it was second place before celebrating wildly on the radio when he found out that Larson had won.

While Larson was jubilant after the race, Buscher was equally disappointed.

“I don’t know what to say right now. I haven’t seen a replay other than a picture and I sure can’t see it in this picture,” a dejected Boucher told FS1.

“It sucks to be so close,” Boucher said before adding that the race result hurt.
