“Congress will end the evil of manual scavenging. Every manual scavenger will be rehabilitated, re-trained, will provide employment and ensure a life of dignity and safety,” he said.
The Prohibition of Manual Scavenging Act, 2013 will be strictly implemented and any person who employs anyone for manual scavenging will be punished, the Congress Secretary said.
According to him, a compensation of 30 lakh rupees will be given to the families of sanitation workers who lose their lives on the job.
Congress, in its manifesto, said it would allocate sufficient funds to enable the procurement of machinery to clean sewers and septic tanks and remove human waste.
“Free insurance will be provided to all sanitation workers. In cooperation with the state governments, a comprehensive plan of underground drainage and safe disposal of wastewater will be implemented in all cities and municipalities in 10 years,” the party said.
