The central government has directed all telecom companies in the country to stop all such fake phone calls coming from abroad, which look like Indian phone numbers.

The Department of Communications (DOT) issued a statement on Sunday saying that the department and telecom companies have developed a system through which such international phone calls can be identified and stopped before they reach Indian customers. In light of this, the companies have now been instructed to stop these calls. The department said that criminals commit cyber crimes and financial fraud by calling Indian customers from abroad. They give the impression that these calls are being made from India itself, whereas in reality, cyber criminals are making these calls while sitting abroad by tampering with the CLI ( Calling Line Identity). Recently there have been incidents such as digital arrest, courier fraud, fraud by warning of cell phone blocking by the Ministry of Communications through these phone calls.

People should give information about fake calls to Sanchar Sathi

The Communications Ministry said in a statement that companies already block international calls impersonating Indian landline numbers, but despite all efforts, some scammers may succeed in their plans. When such phone calls are received, people should report it on the Sanchar Sathi portal.
