Southampton City Council’s highways team said the incident happened between the junctions of Church Street and Emsworth Road.
“The road is currently under a lane restriction while emergency services arrive. Please use caution and plan your journey if you are using this lane,” they told followers on the X at around 2.45pm.
But ten minutes later, at 2:55 p.m., they said the incident had been cleared and normal traffic had resumed.
Hampshire Constabulary has appealed for more information.
