Just three months after their lavish televised wedding ceremony, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nest of the The Golden Bachelor announced their divorce.
during a performance on Friday at Good morning AmericaThe former couple announced the news of their separation, saying they hoped the divorce would not deter other people in their 70s from dating.
“Teresa and I had a number of heart-to-heart conversations and took a close look at our situation — our living situation, et cetera — and we came to a mutual conclusion that it was probably time for us to dissolve the marriage,” Turner said.
Turner, 72, and Nist, 70, sat and held hands during the interview. Neest still wore her wedding band on her ring finger, which she said she would return to Turner.
“But we don’t need to bring back the memories,” Turner smiled.
Turner proposed to Nist at the end of the first season of The Golden Bachelorwhich aired on November 30.
“I don’t think we can tell you how many people have told us that [The Golden Bachelor] Gave them so much hope,” Nist said. “We want none of this to change for anyone.”
Still, the couple said, given their ages, they didn’t want to pretend they were in a relationship for the sake of public image. Turner said both he and Nisset were devoted to their families, and living in different countries proved to be a problem.

The couple revealed that they have been looking at properties in South Carolina as well as New Jersey, where Neest lives. (Turner lives in Indiana.)
Neest said she and Turner “never came to a decision” on where they should live as a couple.
“It is best for the happiness of each of us to live separately,” Turner defended.

When asked if the pair had fallen out of love, Neest and Turner each responded with an enthusiastic “no.”
“I still love that person, there’s no doubt in my mind,” Turner said with a hand on his chest. “I wrestle with her every day.”
The couple said their divorce had nothing to do with the public exposure, or reports of Turner’s dating history, which surfaced last year claiming that the backstory of The Bachelor was not as clean (and tear-jerking) as it appeared on TV. Turner said he hasn’t dated in 45 years since his wife’s death, but Turner’s former flame told The Hollywood Reporter she was his girlfriend for nearly three years.
“Jerry’s already talked to me about it,” Nist asserted. “He explained it to me before the report was published, so we were good with it.”
Both Nist and Turner said they will continue to search for love, and they encourage others to do the same.
The couple has a financial agreement, Good morning America report.
