Kejriwal was taken into custody on March 21 and later remanded in custody till March 28 by the trial court. The legal team of the Aam Adami party claims that his arrest and detention are illegal, and claims his immediate release.

After his arrest, Kejriwal sought interim protection from coercive action from the Delhi High Court, which was rejected by the division bench. Notably, Kejriwal failed to comply with nine summons issued by ED. His party colleagues Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are also involved in the case and are currently in judicial custody.

Earlier, Kejriwal had urgently approached the Supreme Court to challenge his arrest, but that petition was withdrawn earlier today. He had also previously challenged the summons issued by the ED in the Delhi High Court, with an application for interim protection set for hearing on April 22.

The ED has leveled charges against Kejriwal, alleging his involvement in a conspiracy to grant substantial profit margins to certain private companies through the implementation of the excise policy. They allege that Kejriwal, along with others including Vijay Nair, orchestrated this plan. Nair allegedly acted on behalf of Kejriwal and Sisodia, according to the agency.

The ED’s allegations allege that the excise policy, which is meant to offer a wholesale business profit of 12% to selected companies, lacks transparency in its implementation. Kejriwal is being portrayed as the central figure in this alleged scheme, as per the ED’s allegations.
