It was in 1947, when the hands of the clock reached 12 and the date on the calendar became August 14, an announcement was broadcast on the radio, ‘Islamo Alaikum’, the Pakistan Broadcasting Service, we are speaking from Lahore, 13th and 14th is the midnight of August 47 AD, 12 o’clock, the dawn of freedom. This voice heralding the establishment of Pakistan was the voice of Mustafa Ali Hamdani.

When the Muslims heard the announcement of the establishment of a new state, they thanked Allah and raised the slogan of Takbeer. And at the same time, the migration also began in which millions of people lost their lives. Those living across India now listen to more news, anthems and important announcements on Radio Pakistan instead of All India Radio.

Mustafa Ali Hamdani, who announced Pakistan’s independence on radio, remained associated with Radio Pakistan until 1969 and retired as the chief announcer. But tragedy struck. Later, at the strong insistence of the then Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Maulana Kausar Niazi, he also carried out the responsibility of training announcers till 1975 under an agreement.

Today marks the anniversary of Mustafa Ali Hamdani. He died in 1980. Mustafa Ali Hamdani was born on July 29, 1909 in Lahore. His childhood was spent in the house of Insha Pardez Maulana Muhammad Hussain Azad and while living in a scholarly and literary environment, how could he not develop a passion for learning and knowledge and literature. In 1939, he was associated with the Lahore radio station as a broadcaster before partition.

It was Mustafa Ali Hamdani who broke the news of the death of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah from Lahore station. During the wars of 1965 and 1971, during a special broadcast from the Lahore station, he brought up the determination and courage of the soldiers fighting the enemy for the nation and the borders.

Mustafa Ali Hamdani was proficient in Arabic and Persian languages ​​besides Urdu. He was recognized as an expert in pronunciation and correct pronunciation of words.
