Foodies hungry for tasty food and sweet treats have stepped out and visited Darlington Market Square this weekend for its food and drink festival.

There are over 20 stalls spread across the square for the event which takes place between May 3-6 over the bank holiday weekend.

Everything from sickly sweet chocolate brownies to a wide variety of cheese, chutney and scotch eggs has been available to win as pictures of attendees one day show those present snuggling and enjoying the atmosphere.

One stallholder at the event was Steel River Gin from Stockton who had plenty of different flavored gin and vodka available to take home.

Flavors on offer included raspberry ripple, Tropicana club and cherry bomb – but the most popular so far this weekend is salted caramel.

“It’s been great so far,” said Shaun Lawson who is manning the stall this weekend.

“Yesterday was manic, and today it has been nice and steady as well. I’m happy that the weather has held up for us.

“It’s been great to see so many people out. I’ve even heard that some have traveled as far as Leeds to be here today which is fantastic!”

Another stall was Bake for the Soul, a business from Newcastle, selling different flavors of cakes, brownies and bread with Greg Humphreyson who was very impressed with the turnout.

The stall saw an influx of business on Sunday afternoons and became famous for their selection of vegan, gluten and dairy free treats.

“The event was good yesterday, better than any of us expected it to be I think,” said Greg.

“I sold a day and a half’s worth of stock yesterday. The festival here in Darlington has just been fantastic – lots of friendly people and very organised.”

Lydia Dunn from Seaham also set up shop for the weekend with her business Bites – selling small portions of popular desserts in pots.

Nutella blondies, indulgent brownies, crispy mars bar cakes and old school cake were just a few of the delicious treats on the menu.

Lydia said: “Business was fantastic on Saturday and it’s been the same today. It’s great to see people coming out of town for the event!”
