Guwahati: In a controversial move, the Israeli cabinet, led by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, voted unanimously to close Al Jazeera’s offices in Israel, revoke the staff’s certification, ban media service providers from broadcasting its broadcasts, and block access to Al Jazeera’s websites. The decision comes just as the world celebrated World Press Freedom Day, sparking outrage over the suppression of the free press.

The Al Jazeera media network strongly condemned the actions of the Israeli government, describing them as God "a criminal act" that violates human rights and the basic right to access information. The network reaffirmed its commitment to providing news and information to its global audience despite the ongoing repression.

"Israel’s ongoing suppression of the free press, seen as an effort to hide its actions in the Gaza Strip, is in violation of international and humanitarian law. Israel’s direct targeting and killing of journalists, arrests, intimidation and threats will not deter Al Jazeera from its commitment to coverage, while more than 140 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the start of the war in Gaza." This is what Al-Jazeera said in a statement.

The network strongly rejected the claims of the Israeli authorities indicating a violation of professional communication standards. Al Jazeera has confirmed its unwavering commitment to its code of ethics, which emphasizes truth, accuracy and impartiality in its reporting.

The network announced its intention to pursue all available legal channels through international institutions and called on the international community to hold those responsible to account.
