Accused caught in car theft in Lakhimpur, Assam, dies in police custody. After the death of the accused, an atmosphere of tension spread in Lakhimpur. Local people began to demonstrate in the streets of the Halmati area. Two police officers were suspended in connection with this incident.
The death of the accused at the police station
Four people were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the theft of mobile phones and other electronic devices. Additional Superintendent of Lakhimpur Police (ASP) L.K. Deka said that the accused was sitting on a chair inside the police station and suddenly fell. He was immediately taken to the civil hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead.
The person in charge at the police station has been suspended
The ASP said Dipankar was in charge of the Changmai police station during the incident and other policemen along with him were suspended. He also said, “The incident took place inside the police station, therefore officers of the ASP rank will investigate the matter.” A huge crowd gathered in front of the police station since morning in protest against this incident. There is an atmosphere of tension in the area. Senior police officers arrived at the scene to calm the situation.
