In ancient times, there was a dacoit named Ratnakar. Ratnakar used to meet the needs of the family members with the money recovered from the loot. One day Ratnakar met Narada Muni. Narada Muni asked Ratnakar, if you commit this theft, then when the time comes to be punished for it, will your family members also be part of that punishment or not?
Ratnakar said, if I loot for my house, then those people will also share my punishment.
Narad ji said that you should ask this thing to your family members once. Ratnakar listened to the words of Narad Muni and reached his home and asked everyone if they will become partners with me in my punishment?
All the people of the house refused to become partners of Ratnakar the dacoit. Everyone said that it is your responsibility to take care of the family, you also take care of us, but we will not be your partner in punishment.
Hearing these words from the family members, Ratnakar understood that one should not do wrong to anyone. After this Ratnakar stopped doing wrong things.
