The first Tarpur Atomic Power Plant (TAPS), which has two nuclear reactors, may take longer to become operational. Tarapur Atomic Power Center is closed since 2020 for repair work. Earlier it was set to start operating on May 9, but now it may take another five months to start operating. In fact, the equipment needed for installation at the nuclear center has to come from Italy and has not yet been delivered.

The factory has been closed since 2020

Officials said special metal pipes were supposed to arrive from Italy to the nuclear power plant, which have not yet arrived. In fact, due to the small order, the Italian manufacturer has not yet delivered the tubes and their delivery is expected to take place by October. This means that it may be another five months before the nuclear plant starts operating. Two boiling water reactors, each with a capacity of 160 megawatts, are currently operating at the Tarpur nuclear power plant, located 100 km from Mumbai. These are the facilities. These reactors were installed in 1969. These boiling water reactors turn water into steam, with the help of which the turbine operates and electricity is produced.

Activity may resume in November

351 million rupees are being spent on the repair of the atomic power plant in Tarapur and after that the plant will be able to function for another decade. Today, there are 22 nuclear reactors operating in India, whose electricity production capacity is about 6,780 megawatts. A crack was observed in the circulation system at the Tarpur nuclear power plant, after which the plant was closed for repairs. The administration hopes that the project can be completed in mid-September and after several trials it can be started again in November.
