New Delhi (March 31): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced its eighth list of 11 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, including the name of former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu, but the party dropped the ticket of actor Sunny Deol . In this list released by the party, three candidates have been declared for Odisha, six for Punjab and two for West Bengal.
BJP canceled the ticket of Sunny Deol from Gurdaspur Punjab and fielded Dinesh Singh Babbu as its candidate in his place. Babbu was MLA from Sujanpur. He is also the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. For the BJP, Gurdaspur is one such constituency where the party depends on actors to win, but this time it has put its faith in an establishment man.
Deol had won the seat in 2019, while the late actor Vinod Khanna had represented the constituency four times for the BJP in the Lok Sabha. Actor Deol has contributed very little as an MP and has largely stayed away from the proceedings of parliament and his constituency. Because of this, the BJP had to face embarrassment in Punjab.
All the turncoat leaders who have been given BJP tickets are representing their constituencies in the outgoing Lok Sabha. Sushil Rinku, who recently left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the BJP, has been fielded from the Jalandhar constituency in Punjab and Ravneet Singh Littu and Praneet Kaur, who left the Congress and joined the party managing at the Centre, based from Ludhiana. Patiala seats are done in that order.
