GUWAHATI: The Supreme Court has summoned yoga guru Baba Ramdev to appear before it in person for not responding to a contempt notice regarding misleading advertisements of Patanjali Ayurveda, set up by him.

The court also summoned the CEO of Patanjali Ayurveda, Acharya Balakrishna along with Ramdev; it was alleged that the company violated sections 3 and 4 of the Drugs and Medicines Act.

Earlier, the Supreme Court criticized Patanjali Ayurveda, stating that the entire nation is being misled. She ordered Patanjali Ayurveda to refrain from advertising or branding products for the treatment of diseases until further notice.
Judges Hima Koli and Ahsanuddin Amanola also warned the company and its managers against any statements in the media, whether printed or electronic, that disparage any medical system, in accordance with their commitment given on November 21 last year.
The bench observed that the nation had been misled, and questioned the government about its actions against Patanjali Ayurved for allegedly making false claims and misrepresentations in advertisements regarding the efficacy of its medicines to cure various ailments.
