Two former judges of the Supreme Court and High Court wrote letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, inviting them to hold a one-on-one public debate on the Lok Sabha election issues. This letter was also signed by senior journalist Neram. Former Supreme Court judge, Madan B Lokur, and former Delhi High Court judge AP Shah, wrote in the letter that this debate will set an example and people will be able to know the stand of both the leaders directly. The world is watching our elections, in such a situation it is better to listen to the questions and answers of both parties. The letter made an appeal to both parties to accept the invitation to this discussion and also stated that the place, duration, and selection of the moderator will all be decided by mutual agreement. The letter also mentions that the two leaders will send their representatives in case of their absence.

Section 370 and electoral bonds are also mentioned in the letter.

In the letter, the Prime Minister’s side mentions reservation, Article 370 and redistribution of property, while the Congress side mentions possible attacks on the constitution, election bond program and issuances in China. It is also said that so far both sides have only made claims and counter-claims on these issues.

The public was unable to receive a clear and meaningful answer from all of these. In today’s digital age, misrepresentation, fake news and news manipulation are possible. In such a situation, it is very important to inform the general public about all aspects of these discussions so that they can make the right choice while voting.

Both judges were very active during their tenure

Justice Madan B. Lokur was among the four Supreme Court judges who, during their tenure, made sensational allegations against the country’s then Chief Justice Dipak Mishra in a public press conference. It was an unprecedented decision by these judges because through this press conference the gap between the Supreme Court judges and the country as a whole was exposed. These judges claimed that the Chief Justice transfers the hearing of cases of far-reaching importance to only a few selected benches. At the same time, AP Shah, who was the Chief Justice of Madras and Delhi, was considered an activist judge even during his tenure. His historic decision was to remove Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code from the category of crime. This section criminalizes unnatural sex. Those who wrote the letter included N. Ram served as the editor of the English newspaper The Hindu and is among the fiercest critics of the current central government.
