Sunday growing up? We would go to Saint Bernard’s in Edinburgh, which had beautiful blue velvet carpets and wooden seats. Upstairs were little wooden gates, which I found fascinating, but the church was dull and boring. I’m not a believer. I like a fun Sunday rather than a boring one.
Sunday achievement? I have reached the point where I am aware that my life span is coming to an end. It sounds dark, but I’ve realized that I have to enjoy life. I’ve been vulnerable to depression. Now I’m thinking: ‘You’d better get out there because in 20 years you won’t be as fit.’ Getting out of bed and feeling alive feels like an advantage.
Recent Sundays? I lost my dog Veela, a ginger rescue terrier, last year. Sundays have been a bit sad since then. I don’t have a routine. At least last Sunday was fun.
Last Sunday? I went to my favorite French bistro, Figaro in Los Feliz (which means ‘happy ones’), with my dear husband. We had croissants, which I became obsessed with recently because I had gone off bread for a while. Now I’m back on bread, which isn’t great for the waistline but great for the soul.
Do you live in LA? i will Then my husband said – and this is what made the Sunday spectacular – that we should go down to Luna Luna, an amusement park created in the 1980s by a group of incredible artists: Salvador Dalí, David Hockney, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat . It was so jubilant, it brought tears to my eyes.
Sunday lunch? I will, if I can, imitate my mother by making chicken dinners on Sunday evenings. I was once on the tour bus with my band mate, Duke Erickson. We were watching the shopping channel and they were selling this copper pan that could do anything. Next birthday, Duke gave me the copper pan. It’s been a lifesaver – I can now make my own mum’s ape by shoving the chicken, vegetables and gravy in one pan. Bob is your uncle.
