Rishi Sunak has refused to commit to getting legislation for compensation payments to victims of infected blood passed.

Speaking during an interview with ITV News on Thursday 23 May, the prime minister said he would do “everything in his power” to ensure legislation is passed, but admitted “parliamentary process” could be a problem.

“It requires conversations with other parties across parliament, it is governed by parliamentary procedures and I am very hopeful that we can sort that out,” said Mr Sunak.

The prime minister announced a surprise general election on Wednesday, saying the King had agreed to his request to dissolve parliament.

A vote will take place on Thursday 4 July.
