Flames and smoke could be seen coming from a beer store in Stratford on Monday, according to police.

Police and fire were called to the Huron Street location after the fire alarm was activated shortly after midnight.

According to the fire department, a member of the community reported the fire.

Four fire trucks and about 16 fire crews were called to the scene to help extinguish the fire.

Crews at the neighboring Tim Hortons store were evacuated and the area was closed to traffic while firefighters battled the blaze.

Nearby streets reopened sometime Monday afternoon.

The police said that no injuries were reported.

The beer store will remain closed until the building is deemed safe. It is not known when it will reopen.

The adjacent Tim Hortons was not damaged.

The investigation into the cause of the fire at the beer store continues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
