Jajpur: Fatal accident in Odisha on Monday night. The bus turned at Jajpur from the flyover. At least 5 people were killed and 40 people were injured in this accident. The bus was traveling from Odisha’s Cuttack to West Bengal’s Digha with around 50 passengers on board from the flyover on National Highway-16 near Baravati in Jajpur district.

The Jaipur District Chief Medical Officer confirmed the number of injuries to the media and said the condition of the bus driver was critical. He also said that the injured have been sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and Community Health Center in Jajpur.

A local who saw the accident said that the driver was probably under the influence of alcohol. He said, “We were at a bus stand nearby. I found that the bus driver was driving recklessly and the bus was moving erratically. We thought the driver was drink driving.” Rescue operations are underway at the accident site with the help of firemen and local people.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his grief over the death and announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the families of all those killed in the accident.
