Mumbai: Some people are finding new ways to smuggle gold and diamonds abroad. In the past we have heard that some travelers smuggle gold and diamonds worth crores of rupees by hiding them in toothpaste, underwear and private parts of the body. Now a smuggler who tried to transport diamonds worth 2 crores hidden in noodle packets to Bangkok has been caught by the customs officials. Custer officers have arrested the accused who was caught with the goods and are questioning them.
A diamond worth 2 crores in a packet of noodles
Diamonds hidden in packets of noodles were discovered by customs officials at the Mumbai airport. Items worth more than Rs 6 crore were seized from the passengers. It includes gold worth more than Rs.4 crore and diamonds worth more than Rs.2 crore. Authorities have arrested 8 passengers in connection with this case.

6.8 kg of gold seized
An Indian passenger traveling from Mumbai to Bangkok was caught hiding diamonds in packet noodles in his suitcase. He has been arrested. According to a statement released late on April 22, customs authorities have arrested eight passengers who were in possession of 6.815 kg gold worth ₹ 4.44 crore and diamonds worth ₹ 2.02 crore this past weekend.
Gold seized by foreigners
On the other hand, 320 grams of gold coins were seized from a female passenger who had arrived in Mumbai from Sri Lanka. Officers said she tried to smuggle the gold by cutting it into small pieces and hiding it in her underwear. Between April 15-18, 6 kg gold worth around Rs 4.04 crore was seized from ten Indians coming from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Riyadh, Muscat, Bangkok and Singapore. They have been caught carrying these hidden in their rectums, other parts of their bodies and in their bags. Three of them were arrested, the statement said.
