COQUITLAM, BC –

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is raising eyebrows again over his carbon pricing stance, refusing to say today whether or not he would go ahead with the planned increases if he becomes prime minister.

The federal carbon price is set to rise to $170 per ton of carbon dioxide or equivalent by 2030.

Singh says his party will present its own plan.

But he doesn’t say if that includes keeping the current system.

Conservative leader Pierre Poiliber has made scrapping the carbon price a centerpiece of his campaign, saying it contributes to the cost of living.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his government’s carbon price puts more money back into the pockets of most people, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

As both leaders remain steadfast in their positions, Singh declined to say specifically whether or not he supports the current carbon pricing framework, despite running for it in the 2019 election.

On Monday, he deflected questions about the carbon price by attacking Poilivera, accusing him of not having an environmental plan.

“What we’ve said, our plan that we’re going to offer is fair for working people, takes on the big polluters and reduces our emissions,” Singh said.
