Since the formation of the state, voting in the tribal areas of Surguja, Bastar and Kankar has increased by 32 percent. On the other hand, voting has increased in urban areas but it accounts for only one-third of the increase in tribal areas. In fact, since the establishment of the state, four elections have been held in Chhattisgarh.
Out of this, in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Surguja got 48.8 percent.
