The doors of the world famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, were opened at 4 am on Monday. After bathing Mahakal with cold water, Abhishek Puja was performed with Panchamrit made of milk, curd, ghee, honey and fruit juice worshiped as Tripund Tri.

During Bhasma Aarti, Mahakal was decorated like a king with hemp, sandalwood, vermilion and jewellery. A Tilak was worn on the forehead and a silver Sheshnag crown was worn on the head and a silver necklace and Rudraksha studded rosary were offered along with a flower garland made of fragrant flowers.
Offer fruit and sweets. Those who came in large numbers for Bhasma Aarti took the blessings of Baba Mahakal. Dust was offered to Lord Mahakal on behalf of Maha Nirvani Akhara.
