Weather experts said there could be a small chance that homes and businesses in some areas will be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has now reconfirmed the risk of flooding by issuing warnings for thirteen areas including Mid West Scotland, Edinburgh and Lothians, Dumfries & Galloway, Ayrshire and most of the east coast.

The flood warning is the lowest risk warning that SEPA can issue, but is designed to encourage people to take precautions. Chiefs say remote roads and properties are most at risk.

A statement on the SEPA website said: “A period of heavy and continuous rain from Wednesday evening to Thursday evening could cause flooding effects from surface water and rivers. Urban areas and the transport network are particularly vulnerable to risk.

“The effects may include flooding to low-lying ground and roads, with difficult driving conditions. Isolated properties can also be at risk.

“Stay vigilant and remember, it’s your responsibility to take steps that help protect yourself and your property. ”
