The Supreme Court upheld the acquisition of land by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIID), the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) between 1957 and 2006. Let us tell you that DDA, DSIID, EDMC and DMRC have acquired land for various projects.
The Delhi High Court order was set aside
The Delhi government has started the process of acquiring land under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for various development works in the capital region. After that, the land was given by state units like DDA, DSIID, EDMC and DMRC for various development works. Referring to this matter, the Supreme Court said that a long time had passed from 1957 to 2006.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, Deepakaner Dutta and Ujjwal Bhoyan passed the order on May 17 on a petition filed by hundreds of people. The order set aside the decision of the Delhi High Court. In fact, the Delhi High Court declared the land acquisition proceedings over.
The court allowed the continuation of the purchase
The Supreme Court stated that considering all the appeals, the purchase can be continued and the High Court’s ruling is overturned. At the same time, the Supreme Court accepted the argument that the public interest will be harmed if the petitions are rejected contrary to the High Court’s order.
