Sukhbir Saini Every time the Irrigation Department wakes up late to clean the Kurukshetra Saraswati River. Saraswati cleaning begins after planting paddy in the fields. Then Poklane and JCB do not get the way to reach the embankments of Saraswati, then only food is supplied in the name of cleanliness and during the monsoon season, Saraswati floods and submerges many colonies of the city along with wasting hundreds of acres of paddy. Last year, during the monsoon season, a flood-like situation was created in the area due to the breach of the canal embankment, when Saraswati also overflowed and caused a lot of destruction. This time, clouds have gathered just as Saraswati’s cleansing has begun. In fact, due to the Lok Sabha elections, there is a hurdle in holding the tender for cleaning Saraswati till June 4 due to the code of conduct. No new tender process can take place in any department during this period. Questions are also being raised regarding whether the department’s permission in this regard should have been taken from the code of conduct itself. When reporter Bhaskar saw the condition of Saraswati river, there were huge trees standing in the river, the whole Saraswati was covered with water hyacinth. In many places, mounds of silt have formed in the middle of the river. If the river Saraswati is not cleaned, then in such a situation Saraswati will become the cause of destruction for farmers and dozens of colonies. Farmers are very concerned about this. Irrigation Department SE Arvind Kaushik said that all the formalities for cleaning Saraswati have been completed, due to the code of conduct, permission has been written to the Election Commission for permission to tender for cleaning, the cleaning work will be started as soon as the permission comes. . Every year, a budget of more than one crore rupees is spent on cleaning Saraswati in the 107 kilometer area from Uncha Chandana to Pehowa in Yamunanagar. In this regard, half of the work is done under MNREGA and half through JCB and Poklane. Saraswati Heritage Board Vice Chairman Dhumman Singh Kirmich said the Irrigation Department is responsible for cleaning the Saraswati river. Officials of the department have said that permission has been written to the Electoral Commission for the cleaning tender.
