What was Pitroda’s statement?
In America, if a person dies, only 45% goes to the children, the rest is confiscated by the government and distributed to the poor. In some places, the government is allowed to levy a tax of 18%-40% on inherited property. In some states, property can be taxed anywhere from 1% to 20%. He created a controversy by saying that this act applies to those who have assets of at least 13 million dollars and that such issues should be discussed in India as well.
If someone in India has assets worth 10 billion, after death they leave the entire assets to their children. The public, the poor get nothing out of it. But American law is completely different and says that when you die, you have to give your wealth to the public as well. He insists on leaving only half of the property to the children. Pitroda said I think this is a suitable law. The BJP strongly condemned this and the Congress also opposed it.
